About X-Icon Editor
X-Icon Editor is a free, browser-based tool for drawing, importing and exporting favicons and website
icons. It runs entirely on HTML5 <canvas> technology, so there is nothing to install and nothing to configure: you
open the page, design your icon, and download a ready-to-use .ICO file.
The editor lets you work on four icon resolutions at once — 64x64, 32x32, 24x24 and 16x16 pixels — and packs
them into a single .ICO file, the format browsers and operating systems have relied on for favicons for over two decades.
You can draw freehand with the brush and pencil tools, add text, fill shapes, or import an existing image and crop it to
the size you need.
Why we built it
Most icon editors are either full-blown desktop image editors that are overkill for a 16-pixel square, or paid services
that lock basic features behind a subscription. We wanted something in between: a focused, no-nonsense tool that does one
job well and stays free to use, with no account, no watermark and no upload limits.
Who is behind X-Icon Editor
X-Icon Editor is developed and maintained by Avarice S.r.l.,
an IT consulting and custom software development company based in Turin, Italy, founded in 2006 out of the Politecnico di
Torino business incubator. Avarice helps companies in healthcare, logistics and manufacturing streamline their operations
through custom web, desktop and mobile applications and business process consulting.
X-Icon Editor itself began as a collaboration with Microsoft around the launch of Internet Explorer 9, built to make it
easy to create the multi-resolution icons that IE9’s Pinned Sites feature relied on. Avarice has kept it free and
maintained ever since.
